PUNCH CS. IUDY l 'lilllf Punch and lurly Stall. whose work makes your year hook possihle. is composed of three groups. the rlrt. Literary. and Busi- ness Staffs. The Art Staff. under the very' capa- lrle direction of Miss Wines. prepared the fine sketches and decorations that adorn the pages of your book. This Staff is chosen from the students in the advanced art classes. and each person on the Staff makes one com- plete picture for the hook. Each year a theme is chosen. and the sketches are huilt around this theme. This year it is workers'i, and symbolizes high school education as a strong and enduring edifice. built by many work- ers. Writing and checking the articles for the many' school organizations, and compiling the activities and holy- hies of each graduate was the very well executed work of the Literary Stall. ln order to ohtain the informa- tion neeessary. the seniors were given questionnaires on their hohlyies and activities. and the various organiza- tions were asked to turn in articles giving their activities for the year. This group was headed by John Fegan. who was assisted by Audrey' deLozier. Elizaheth Hannan. Elsie Carper. and June Sheasley. Hrs. Metzler. faculty advisor. supervised the work of these people. John Hamaker. Editor-in-Chief. with the assistance of Thomas Mit- chell. Husiness Manager. helped in the planning and designing of the Punch llllfl furfyx and also in soliciting the advertisements puhlished in the hook. llesides directing this work. Mrs. Rip- pard also had charge of the pictures for the lvook. 'lihus with the comhined efforts of these three groups. the 1936 edition of the PIIIIVII mul fzulr is offered for your enjoyment. THE EASTERNER I 'QTHE EAS'l'lfllNl'llt , school newspaper. is the aehiexement of three different departments. the Editorial Stall. the Printing Stall. and the Business Staff. all of whom work without credit and usually outside of regular sehool hours. Letis look a little into the re- spective duties of these departments. First, the Editorial Board eonsists of four page editors, a news editor. and a copy editor. These students have completed one year of journalism with honors. The news is first gathered and written by journalism students. Erl- itors read, select, and eorreet the ma- terial. Students type the stories. whieh are then sent to the linotyper to he east into lines of type. The page ed- itors plan pages on dummy sheets and direet the headline writing of the journalism students. Headlines are sent to the sehool print shop to he set up in type. :Xfter the material ar- rives from the llllUt5llPI'.S. it is proof- read and sent hat-k for eorreetions. The work is then turned over to the Printing Staff. made up of stu- dents who have completed one semes- ter of printing. By them the head- lines are set up in tvpe. and the pages made up, following the direetions of the dummv sheets. After eorreetions are made. eopies are run ofl on the sehool press. Nlueli time after sehool is required for this work. The paper is then sent to the Husiness Stall to he eireulated. llefore The Easterner has lveen printed. this stall' must have spent mueh time and effort in soliciting advertisements and suhseriptions to put the paper on a business lvasis. And so is produeed The East- erneru.
