X g K fy Inductlon In the fall of 1940 as lowly sophomores we were lnducted mto the tralnmg center of Eastern Hlgh School Our ways were awkward but our sp1r1t was unconquerable and we struggled through those first few embarrasslng and trylng sltuatlons A few 1n our ranks attalned early promotlons Class Presldent Dlck West Vlce Pres1dent James Walton Secretary Doris Potter Treasurer Joyce Johnson As a reward for our fine work we were granted our first llberty To celebrate th1s event a very gay and rolllckmg Sophomore Mlxer was presented on February 14 1941 The remalnder of the semester was spent gettlng acquaxnted wlth the general clrcumstances Ttammg As Junlors we began xn earnest our baslc traxnmg To lead us ln the phase of the work we chose as officers Clarence johnson Presl dent B111 Ryan Vlce Presldent Irma Clark Secretary and Audrey P1ck Treasurer Under thelr able leadershlp our class began to clxck as a unlt We gradually swung lnto Stflde and 1n so dolng establlshed for our class a reputatxon for belng a talented and energetlc group Needless to say our J Hop Blossom Tlme helped matters conslderably Promotlon Our noses aloft we were promoted to the envlable rank of senlors We chose to gumde us Marvm Janson Class Presldent Wlth Marilyn Hoover Phyllls Cheney and Ruth Cessna as h1s asslstants The obstacles became greater but these too were taken m strlde A chosen group of drama speclallsts brought recognltlon to the entlre class when It presented an unforgettable Semor B Play entltled Adam and Eva on November 12 1942 Hannlbal Abood took over command of the Student Councll and Emll Nakfoor the Honor Soclety Another group under Dlck West s management was chosen to ed1t the Lantern Mary Byelxch Edltor 1n Chlef of the Easterner added greatly to the hterary accomollsh ments Nlght Fllght our Senlor Prom under the dxrectxon of Henry Skxp Lohr ranked second to none ln all of Eastern s proms Successxve vlctorles at the Semor Program and Senlor Banquet ended our tramlng at Eastern When Mr Schnelder left for the Navy Mr Lott took over the Job as class advlsor PgTe I Q ' D 1 ' Y 1 ' v r ' 1 v V Y 5 ' , . , . . , . v - 1 ' 1 v ' v v 1 1 . , . .
