Wars, peace treaties, statesmen, new govern- ments, and new ways of life-these are the topics history students discuss in courses ranging from the history of western civilization to a study of modern problems. Students learn to use maps as they locate remote spots, till in outlines with lovely shades of purple and green, and recognize dozens ot emerging nations. Head: Miss Mary Parker History and Standing: Mrs. Deanna Miller, Miss Nellie Mackall, Mrs. Anne Smith, Miss Roberta Carnes, and Mrs. Patricia Cooper. Seated: Miss Mary Parker.

Whether working in dark laboratory rooms or teaching in lecture rooms, members of the sci- ence department strive to ignite sparks isome- times literallyi in the minds of their students. They courageously attempt to make molecules come alive, to make levers and pulleys fascinat- ing, and to establish the social standing of the frogs. Like the Red Queen in Alice Through the Looking Glass, they run hard to stay in the same place trying to keep up with modern science.
