Miss Theresa Reed and Miss Alice White In accordance with the new nation-wide emphasis on physical fitness, Easternis physical edu- cation department offers activities to meet each student's needs. Each girl's schedule includes two periods a week of various athletic games and exercises in the gymnasium. The department further offers a com- plete extra-curricular program of intramural and varsity athletics, as well as modern dance groupsg through participation in these ac- tivities, an Eastern girl may earn an athletic letter. The seven faculty members-including two new addi- tions, Miss Patty Fardette and Miss Jeanne LeHardy-work under the direction of Miss Alice White to make physical education enjoyable as well as beneficial. Music Department Eastern's reputation for fine harmonic singing by the entire stu- dent body at its assemblies is main- tained under the direction of the Music Department. Mrs. Anne Codd, Mr. Gerald Eyth, and two new faculty members, Mrs. Ruth Moyer and Mr. Glenn Bunch, see that every student has at least one period of general music each week from which she may learn to ap- preciate both vocal and instru- mental music. The current emphasis on sci- ence in the space age makes it necessary for well-inforlned Easternites to understand the physical concepts of their age. Eastern's Science Department, headed by Miss Helen Lentz, strives to prepare each student, if not for a scientific career, at least for a general understand- ing of new developments in the world of science. This year, the Science Department has been expanded to include advanced chemistry and biology in addi- I s l tion to the regular courses of physics, physical science, biol- ogy, chemistry, and geography.
