language Department The boundaries of international com- munication are broken by Eastern's For- eign Language Department, under the di- rection of Dr. Gladys Dorsey. The modern languages-French, German, and Span- ish-prepare students to take their places as world citizens, through Latin, the rich treasures of ancient Roman civilization are unlocked. Although emphasis upon reading, writ- ing, comprehension, and pronunciation of the language is stressed, an apprecia- tion of the culture of other nations is also developed. Eastern's language laboratory, which is equipped with a tape recorder, phonograph, and other audio equipment, is frequently used to enable students to become more familiar with the spoken lan- guage. Extra-curricular activities of the department include four language clubs, allowing students to put their knowledge into practice. Pardonnez-moi, what was that last phrase? Row 1: Miss Mayer, Miss Carey, Mrs. lnfonte, Miss Arnold. Row 2: Mrs Hahn Mr Harier, Mrs. Green, Miss Robb, Miss James, Dr. Dorsey.

Home Economics The Home Economics Department of Eastern, under the leadership of Miss Dorothy Ordwein, offers an ex- cellent preparatory course to girls in- terested in home-making careers. Cook- ing, sewing, housekeeping, child care, and the social graces are all part of the curriculum, for a good home-maker is a versatile one, a fact that Eastern's home economics teachers recognize and keep in mind while planning the courses of instruction. A home economics stu- dent has the opportunity of working in the fine cooking and sewing rooms and the fully furnished apartment, which are all located on the third floor, thus she receives valuable practical experi- ence in all three divisions of the course ffoods, clothing, and home-makingj while she is still in school.
