Therefore, Eastern's Foreign Lan- guage Department plays an eminent part in the preparation of her students for their roles as future world citizens. Caesar, Cicero, and Virgil flourish again in the Latin classes. Meanwhile, the more modern sounds of French, German, and Spanish echo through the halls as Dr. Dorsey and her fellow linguists emphasize comprehen- sion, reading, writing, and pronunciation. The knowledge of foreign languages, the key to understanding, enables students to explore and share in previously unknown treasures of many languages through conversation, corre- spondence, and reading. Such knowledge is an invaluable part of education. Raw is Miss Mayer, Mrs. Boone, Miss Arnold, Dr. Dorsey, Mrs. Green, Miss Carey. One, two, three, sing! is the familiar signal to which Eastern girls in music groups respond. Appreciation of good music, both vocal and in- strumental, is part of the many-sided instructional program undertaken by Mrs. Masson and her staff. Enthusiasm for music shows itself in the assembly programs and in the popularity of spe- cial concerts. Besides the general course for all students, the music maior course and the music curriculum program afford to students with special musical interests more extensive training and study. These groups are evidence of the success of the staff in developing musical talent.
