History Department History, as presented by Miss Mary Parker and her staff, opens fascinating fields to quest- ing minds. Whether girls take United States history, Modern World history, or Modern Prob- lems, they read widely and begin to appreciate the great contributions of ages past and to un- derstand old and new difficulties. History also prepares students for citizenship and gives them a rich background and firm foundation for solving contemporary problems. Through knowledge of the past, students pre- pare for the future. Signers of the Constitution and a history student silently confer. What question provokes such in- quisitive glances? L 'LL Home Economics Department H-m-m, what smells so good? is the usual question of Eastern girls as they reach the top of stairway 3. There, emanating from the home economics classrooms, the tantalizing aroma of baking cookies and the familiar hum of sewing machines assure students that an important kind of education is in progress. Under the friendly, able guidance of the teachers of the Home Economics Department, students not only receive instruction in food and clothing but also include in their studies household management, family living, child care, entertaining, and the develop- ment of social graces. Miss Ordwein, Miss Burton, and Mrs. Jett. Sparkling new kitchens add zest to culinary tasks. 22
