The elm tree is a lady In green and gold brocade. Odell Shepherd On the campus of Eastern High School, just outside Miss Zouck's window, stands a young elm. Our principal has often spoken of her in- terest ih its growth from a tiny sapling to a tree of stately beauty, When we, the Class of l955, entered Eastern, this young tree symbolized all the hopes and ambitions that we had for our own life at the school. In it we saw grace, dignity, beauty, integrity, friendliness, and distinction-all the qualities that we as a class hoped to develop. As sophomores, we planted the seed of our growth by selecting this elm as a model for our banner. ln our junior year, we put down the strong roots of responsibility, cooperation, and class spirit-a firm foundation to support us as future leaders of the school. At last, as seniors, we hope that we have attained many of the fine attributes of the noble elm, our sym- bol of worth throughout these years at Eastern. ! f fi, .XX Q 7' XXX 6
