We marvel at your simple beauty as you sit on the crest of the hill like a great red bird with outstretched wings. We climb your well- traversed steps, and watch the wide expanse of green unfold around us. Now, within the shadow of the tower, our thoughts turn away from your physical appearance and we think of the life within you. We have heard a lot about you-all about the courses you offer, the teams we can join, the clubs, plays, assemblies, traditions, and, of course, the teachers. Our friends are all around us. Many of us have been together all through junior high, some ever since grammar school. Will we be separated now, left without any familiar face in our class? And how will the seniors receive us? We remember now with remorse the patronizing airs we had, such a short time ago, toward the freshies in our respective junior highs. Some of us may be a little afraid-or not afraid exactly, just cautious. Whatever differences of inner feelings, though, there is only one that shows in our faces-excitement. Antici- pation is strong within us all. We have such high ideals of making these next three years the very best yet! We want so much to become a part of you! Will you welcome us, Eastern? We reach the doors, and they yield to the touch of many hands. Was that the morning sun reflected in a high window or did Lady Eastern wink as we passed through? 5
