GIRLS' VOCATIONAL Influenced by fhe increasing frend of women foward facfories and shops, many girls are invading fhe fradifionally boys' courses in fhe mechanical drawing room and shop af Easfern. The presence of girls in fhese classes is no longer loolzed upon as a curiosify. ln fhe home economics division classes are offered in foods, clofhing, child care, and personal sfandards. This is a fradifionally girls' field, buf new emphasis is being placed on fhe imporfance of home economics. As a resulf of rafioning and scarcifies cooking is no longer a lavish arf, buf one of careful planning, budgefing, and economizing. COMMERCIAL Since fhe Vicfory Corps was infroduced af Easfern, fhe Commercial Deparfmenf has undergone many definife changes. The new program has been carried oul' under fhe supervision of Mr. Harold Sfarlc, head of fhe deparfmenf. Code Pracfice and Touch Typewrifing and a course in IZA Refresher Arifhmefic are new subiecfs infroduced by fhe deparfmenf under fhe Vicfory Corps program. Mrs. Lois Alcroyd feaches Code Pracfice and Touch Typewrifing, and Mr. James Eisele has charge of fhe Refresher Arifhmefic course. The Commercial Deparfmenf is frying fo help remedy fhis poor showing of seniors by offering Refresher Arifhmefic fo IZA pupils af a fime when fhey are ready fo use if in business and in fhe armed services.
