To accomplish fhis aim fhe High School Vicfory Corps was organized on a nafional basis. Here af Easfern fhe Vicfory Corps has been successfully insfalled and is af presenf funcfioning in seven maior groups: Army, Air, Navy, Pro- fessional, lndusfrial, Commercial, and Homemaking. The sfudenfs parficipafing in fhese courses frain along specific lines fo prepare fhem for fhe various milifary and civilian services. Those in fhe indusfrial and armed forces group- ings are sfudying such subiecfs as mafhemafics, chemisfry, physics, radio, elecfricify, and pre-flighf aeronaufics. This fraining is necessary because Army sfafisfics show 'fhaf sixfy-fhree ouf of every hundred soldiers are now special- isfs-mechanics, radio operafors, machine gunners, 'rech- nicians, and fhe like. Skill in fhe armed services can be greafly increased and speeded up by adequafe preparafion before a young man is inducfed info service. The Vicfory Corps is fhus making a definife confribufion fo fhe armed services. Through high school courses in mafhemafics, in physics, and in radio repair fhe groundwork is being laid for fhe immense number of specialisfs needed for success- ful prosecufion of fhe war. Buf no army can fighf wifhouf fools. And here fhe de- mand is filled by fhe lndusfrial course, specifically designed fo frain our fufure indusfrial workers. Even in warfime, however, fhe essenfial occupafions of civilian life musf be confinued. Professional and commercial fields musf remain available fo fhe public. In fhis respecf fhe Vicfory Corps is preparing our youfh by giving fufure business and pro- fessional people fhe subiecfs fhey need fo become infegral parfs of our nafion. Language, composifion, governmenf, biology, bookkeeping, fyping, and similar subiecfs are in- cluded in fhe curriculum so fhaf essenfial civilian acfivifies may confinue fo funcfion as parf of fhe war efforf. The infelligenf and scienfific handling of problems in fhe home is sfressed in fhe Homemaking Corps. This field provides fraining in home science, clofhing, child care, nufrifion, family healfh, and fhe general well being of fhe people on fhe home fronf. Along wifh specialized sfudy, all members of fhe Vicfory Corps follow an arduous physical fifness program, which sfresses firsf aid, swimming, calisfhenics, and gymnasfics, wifh fhe boys, especially, geffing a condifioning which will enable fhem fo plunge direcfly info fhe roufine of fhe several services of our counfry.
