MESSAGE TO THE CLASS 1958 I have had the pleasure of knowing your group the entire time that you have spent at Eastern. I do hope we have done our best to prepare you for life ahead. I know that your future will be one that will challenge you a great deal. The evaluation of our school 11- will be based upon your acceptance of this challenge. Many of you have wondered why your high school has been placing such emphasis on standards of performance both in academic and per- sonal conduct fields. We believe that these are the standards your com- munity expects of you. Seniors, you are leaving our school with great hopes for this strange future ahead. Don't lose these hopes, but try to bring them into the world of reality, Try to analyze your actions. Are they worthy of your great American heritage? Your heritage has been wonderful, but it will be useless if you do not add to it in a constructive way. I hope that we have taught you appreciation for your religion, govern- ment, and your community. If we have not taught this to you, perhaps we have failed in our obiective, but only time will tell. I would like to see this class go into our world community as critical thinkers. By having this classification, you will be doing more to promote the greatest type of government this world has ever known, democracy. I believe, Seniors, that if you keep faith with your religion and develop a philosophy of working to your capacity, you will have a wonderful and wholesome life. Always remember that you have many friends at Eastern, and we do want to know about your future life. 7.5 .J,0i2,Jksz BERNARD F. DEWITT
