Mr. Leon Lutgen was the Industrial Arts teacher for both the high school and Junior high. He was the Sophomore class sponsor. Mr. Lutgen's degree is from Ft. Hays. High Pep Club sponsor. Mrs. Betty Still got her degree from Southwestern State in Oklahoma. She taught busi- ness in the high school and was the Kayette sponsor. Mr. Ron Chester taught sci- ence at EHHS . He was also the Freshman class sponsor. Mr. Chester earned his degree from Ft. Hays. Mr. Dennis Nelson taught 'ith and 8th grade courses as well as coaching all the junior high athletics and high school bas- ketball. Mr. Nelson's degree is from Ft. Hays. ANDADVISORS Miss Pat Helm received her degree from Emporia State. She taught high school Eng- lish, speech and drama and sponsored the annual. Mr. Gary Hicks was the guid- ance counselor at EHHS. He taught government, psychol- ogy and sociology and con- temporary affairs. He served as Jr. Class sponsor and Stu- dent Council sponsor. Mr. Hicks' degree came from Ft. Hays. Mr. Marvin Hines taught math at EHHS. He also co-spon- sored the Senior class. Mr. Hines received his degree from Ft. Hays. Mrs. Carroll Hansen received her degree from Ft. Hays. She taught Junior high subjects , plus high school physics. She was the girls' volleyball and track coach . Mr. Lanny Hower got his degree from Ft. Hays. Tammie Fought threw the softball 177'g Susan Hansen high jumped 4'9 : Kathy Goracke long jumped 15' 8 '7!8 g Patti Christy ran the low hurdles in 19 . 5 seconds and she ran the 440 yd . dash in '71 .4 seconds: Vicki Townsend ran the 100 yd. dash in 11. 9 seconds, she ran the 220 yd. dash in 28. '7 seconds and she chugged around the track for the mile run of 6 minutes 51 seconds. Dee Ann Gale set a new record in the 880 yd. run. She ran the distance in 2 minutes 55 sec- onds. Everything wasn't exactly fun and games, but there was time at the meets to rest and have a good time . The first meet of the season was the Bogue Invita- tional held at Hill City. Eastern Heights picked upua lot of medals and placed second overall. The next meet was the Tipton Boys Invitational. Eastern Heights scored 22 points and placed sixth. Medal winners at this meet were Mark Stevens, second in the 440: Ron Gaines, third in the 880: Terry Redinger, second in the 220: Gary Staple, third in the shot put: Mark Stevens, third in the long jump. At the Tescott Relays later in the season EHHS made a fair showing. Terry Hoft placed third in the jave- lin, and Terry Redinger placed third in the 440 yard dash. At the league meet held in Russell Terry Hoft placed third in the discus: Terry Redinger placed third in the 100 yard dash and third in the 220 yard dash: Mark Stevens placed third in the 880 yard run. The following records were broken this season by the boys' team: Terry Redinger broke his own 440 record with a run clocked at 52. 8 seconds: Mark Stevens broke the 880 yard run record with a time of 2 min- utes 11 seconds. 5 , .
