BEN MICHELSON Our Principal To the Graduates of 1961 Dear Boys and Girls: This year, as for the past 60 years, another class of Eastern District High School graduates will go forth into the world. As in many times past, the outside world is a grim foreboding place with a cold War very much in evidence. Every generation has had to meet the problems posed by either the state of our national economy or the nature of the international situation. But, as we look back over the vista of the years, we find that each generation has succeeded in solving these problems. I feel confident that you will meet these situations and make the best of them. ln a sense you are moving into exciting times, and you carry with you your youth and your training, both excellent weapons. It is up to you to come to grips with our problems and do whatever can be done to ameliorate them. Our very hest wish goes with you. Sincerely, BEN MICHELSON Principal MLW ,bf TSW? Cohen Many heartaches and frustrations are felt in publishing a yearbook, but at the termination of all work involved there is a feeling of gratification, and there are many thanks to be made. It is the custom of the editor-in-chief to write her acknowledgments at the last page of the yearbook. I want my colleagues and all those who worked with me on this publication to be aware that my thanks are heartfelt and not merely words on a sheet of paper. Special thanks are due to Mr. D. Cohen, our senior advisor, for the patience and encouragement he has shown us. I wish to thank the members of our art department, Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Shliom, for their cooperation and assistance. Thanks are also due to the members of the staff at Dante Studio for the fine photographic techniques employed in making our senior pictures a source of lasting satisfaction to the seniors and their parents. Mr. Jerry Gladstein is also to be appreciated for his aid and technical advice. A very special note of gratitude to Arthur Tucker, Norma Rodriguez, and Eddie Acosta. for without their help this publication would have been a virtual impossibility.
