On December twebfth, Eastern 's Chorus and Choir presented their annual Christmas Concert. This year we performed The M agnificat by Johann Sebastian Bach with soloists and a 21, piece orchestra, including our new Dlem- ish III Zuckermann Harpsichord. Under the direction of Dr. Eldon Downing, the concert was most enthusiastically received by a full-house audience comprised of college and community folk. In addition to the Magnijhfcat, the choir sang a program of challenging music by Poulenc, Vittoria, Buxtehude, and Berlioz. Another dynamic concert was given in the spring by chorus and choir. D In addition to these annual concerts, the groups also per- form at social college and community events. Each year the choir participates in an Intercollegiate Festival at South- ern Connecticut State College. Our new Harpsichord was built by Mr. Walter Johnson and Mr. Edward Rekk, from a Zuclcermann hit. We now are in a position to perform music fy' all periods without 'relying on a loan from other colleges. The harpsichord was dedicated to the memory of the late Dr. James Skmfington. From the successful outcome of this year's and past years choral performances, and the generous support from the SGA, the future music life at Eastern looks very promising. si sk P35 ' pg e 15 5 EE
