fix..- XVE OF THE 1956 OASIS STAFF respectfully dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Baker Wardlaw, who retired on December 31, 1955, after serving for over twelve years on the Board of Education. Mr. Wardlaw was appointed to the Board in October, 1943, to succeed Spencer Kimball, and was later elected to four successive three-year terms. From january 1, 1946, to December 31, 1948, he served as Presi- dent of the Board. During World War II when the enrollment of Gila Junior College, as it was then called, fell very low, Mr. Wardlaw's iirm belief in the future of the college kept it from being discontinued. In the words of the farewell letter sent to Mr. Wardlaw by the other four members of the Board, Because you have been loyal, staunch, and active in your membership, you have made a contribution to the future of our school that will be felt throughout all the years of its growth. In our own words, we say simply, Thank you, Mr. Wardlawf' -4-

il DURING THE FIVE YEARS that Mr. Paul E. Guitteau has been President of Eastern Arizona Junior College, the enrollment at the college has steadily increased and the classroom facilities have greatly expanded, including the construction of the new science and agriculture buildings within the past year. The far-sighted policies and the forceful leadership of President Guit- teau have established for our college a very high reputation, not only in the local area but throughout the state.
