The Locust Dedicates Alvin Rix Recently, when a member of the college administration was discussing the faculty, he said, and I believe that the two most valuable members of the faculty are Alvin Rix and Weldon Tay- lorf' Those in the conference agreed. It is certainly not hard to see why these two men have been often cited for their contributions to students at East Texas State. This year, for the first time in over thirty years, the fac- ulty convened without the presence of Alvin Rix, retired head of the Depart- ment of Agriculture. Mr. Rix completed his service with the close of the sum- mer session and the administration, the faculty and students will miss his place in the classroom. During the period that Mr. Rix has served this college he has built the agriculture department into one with a major reputation in the state. He is known and respected in agricultural circles throughout the state and nation. With regret for the retirement of Mr. Rix, and appreciation for his serv- ices to the thousands of students who have passed through his classes, the Locust is proud to dedicate this issue to Mr. Rix and Mr. Taylor who both represent the ultimate in teaching skill and accomplishment.
