So begins the Panorama of East Texas State, the fastest growing teachers college in Texas. Here 2,000 students daily meet their classes and exchange greetings in such a manner that this school has gained the reputation as being the Friendliest College in the State. The first thing a student sees when entering the city of Commerce is the large neon sign pointing the way to East Texas State College. On the campus there are certain points of interest that the students hold dear to their school and that the exes never forget. Mayo's tomb, located north of Old Main represents the birth of the school, the Victory Bell has sounded many an East Texas athletic victory, and the cannon which guards the circle, known as the home of the commuters. Bent from the Weight of many years of climbing students, is the huge tree that stands in front of the Library. lts age represents the stability of this school yet its appearance is that of friendliness and democracy so apparent in the student body. In our whirl of campus activities We seldom stop to notice these spots of the campus. They have been photographed many times but each time We find a new beauty that was not there before. They all go to make up the symbol of the school, the Lion, a concrete testimony to the principles of the college We lovingly call ET These principles are Democracy, Friendship, Scholarship and Loyalty. Housing over 60,000 volumes, the Library is one of the most interesting buildings on the Campus. Hside from the library it is the home of the publi- cations, and English, government, journalism and economics are taught in its class rooms.
