Despite efforts to im- prove the situation the parking problem just seemed to get worse this yeon The first big sign of trouble come when of- ficiols ot the Johnson City Foundry warned that they would have to start towing students' cars that were parked in the plonts' parking lot. Dione Groves, manager of office services or the foundry, said that students parking at the plant had been 0 problem before but this year seemed to be worse. The students and Chief Robert Mossmon of public safety agreed that the problem was worse than before. Mossmon attributed the problem to the dorm residents keeping their cars. He said they did not need their cars after the Labor Day breok. Mossmon said the univer- sity was short about 400 parking spaces and en- couraged students to carpool. What ever the reason for the growing problem, 0 group of angered students held a protest in front of the Administration building on Friday, Sept. 20. Guy Trowick, Student Body president, was the main speaker for the protest, which brought out more than 0 hundred students. Asking for the stu- dents' support, Trowick said the SGA wanted to work with the administration to solve the problem. TThe tSGAy needs your support Together we can show the administra- tion we're con- cerned, he We've got to work to solve the problem e not just to think it's going to go away. As 0 result of the protest, 0 meeting between the SGA; Dr. Dormon Stout, dean of Student Affairs; and Mossmon was scheduled to discuss the solutions. This student voiced his complaints about student teachers. after return- ing from 0 teaching job, being unable to find a parking place soon enough to get to class on time. The local media arrived to film and report on the parking protest. This comeromon gets on overhead view of the scene.
