Head of Eost Tennessee State University for the past eighteen years has been Dr. Burgin E. Dossett. One of the best-known educators in the state and south, Dr. Dossett became president of the institution in 1949 following distinguished service as Commissioner of Education of the state of Tennessee. Under his thoughtful and vigorous admininstration, the institution has been transformed from a small state college emphasizing teacher training to a vast, constantly-growing multi-purpose university offering education in all basic fields. In physical facilities, the institution under President Dossett has gained a total of thirty-five new buildings costing in excess of $20,000,000. During the 1966-1967 school year a new multi-million dollor building program, featuring a $2 million-plus ultra-modern library has been underway. The academic program has kept pace with physical growth. New degrees and academic programs are being steadily added, with this process having been accelerated since the achievement of university status in 1963. The faculty is constantly growing in size and quality. A big, solid, and many-sided institution of higher learning. East Tennessee State University stands as the visible expression of the vision and dedication of the man who has led it with such energy and vision for almost two decades. PRESIDENT Burgin E.
