For three decades it has seen men and women come and pattern their lives after its own — deep-rooted and vital, strong and useful. It has watched patiently as youth has brought its talents here to have them strengthened and en¬ larged hy education. It has been witness to working and playing, and to the finding of friendships. Twice it has seen young men go off to war, and twice it has seen them return to prepare themselves to live in a world at peace. Now it looks down on a campus that is awakening to Spring after the winter months of war. As always it stands to give welcome to all who come , and to bid Godspeed to those who s e C dLton X- - w ■hi ADMINISTRATION Dr. C. C. Sherrod President Dr. Frank Field Registrar O. R. Sutton Dean D. McMURRAY Director Men ' s athletics, after three years of limited activity, have come back this season. Under the very able direction of Coach McMurray, a program of football, basketball, and baseball has been offered. Although our football team did not play a regular schedule, the experience the boys received this year in practice will be helpful in the organization of a team next fall. The ETSC basketball team has been the outstanding one in the upstate area. Winners of the Smoky Mountain Conference Tournament, the BUCCANEERS hold 18 decisive victories in the 21 games played this season. In addition to varsity basketball, se veral cage teams have been formed in the Men ' s Intramural Department. With the return of many athletes from the armed forces, the pros¬ pects for excellent tennis and baseball teams are good. ETSC also welcomes back two former coaches—Archie Mc- Neail, tennis and Jim Mooney, baseball. Two new developments—the reorganization of the Smoky Mountain Conference and the proposed building of a new gymnasium on the campus—give ETSC students high expectations in the future for more and better athletics in this college and in all East Tennessee.
