Dedication If one word were used to describe the East Technical faculty, the word which probably would be selected would be friendliness. East Technical’s staff of instructors is undoubtedly the most outstanding in the state cf Ohio for high schools and it is this function of friendliness that makes them so They are friendly in that they take an interest in their pupils beyond the customary purely academic limits. They keep the respect of the students and yet try to be encouraging and helpful when subject matter becomes difficult and hard to understand in class as well as being helpful on personal matters. They are considered friends, not teachers. This is indeed a striking contrast with the teachers of ifty years ego. They were in general a harsh, unsympathetic group who enforced their wishes by a yardstick or use of the famous sentence, John, stay after school,” instead of reasoning with a student at fault. These methods built up a feeling of hatefulness in the students that is still felt today and which the modern teachers are trying to remedy. It is this which the East Technical teachers have accomplished probably to a greater degree than any other high school staff. Many members of the faculty are authorities in their respective fields of work. Such subjects as electricity, machine shop, industrial chemistry, foundry, and art require real effort on the part of the instructor as well as the student. Years of training in these subjects are often necessary before a satisfactory degree of knowledge can be obtained to qualify a person as an instructor. As though a college diploma were not enough, most of these specialists have had considerable experience working with industrial concerns, which has aquainted them with outside problems. This is to the student’s advantage as he is informed about actual situations and is prepared to meet them when they arise. The old saying “Those who can, do; those who can’t teach,'' does not hold true in East Tech since these specialists have done what they teach. It is not, however, entirely their education or their ability to be helpful that has given them so much prestige, for part of it is due to their willingness to participate in extra-curricular activities. These activities include vocational and social clubs, the meetings of which feature talks or field trips. The advisors usually arrange these affairs which are to the advantage of the students for they learn to apply what they were taught in school. East Technical could hardly exist, however, were it not for the men and women who are employed to keep the student body in comfort by tending the heating, ventilating, and lighting continually. To this group of about 150 persons made up of teachers, department heads, advisors, librarians, office clerks, and other employees, this annual is respectfully dedicated.

E NTS Comm ONE MOMENT, PLEASE, before delving into the contents of your June Bug! Comment by beautiful blond at the photography studio: Your East Technical Seniors are so handsome1” ★ Horrified the Senior gazed at his photograph. In a strange, choking voice he whispered, Wh-why that isn't me! That-thnt leering monstrosity Coptured forever on paper! Propping his open annual on a convenient window sill he moved back, one step — two, three — ten. . . but his picture remained the same. Husky shoulders sagged. A tear trickled slowly down a lean cheek. A sigh that ripped at ones heartstrings escaped trembling lips. He shuffled forward and gathered up the offending June Bug. His hand clumsily smeared the burning, salty drops from his jutting chin. A friend who just ten minutes before had suffered the same nerve-racking experience approached him quietly with annual and pen clutched tightly in calloused fingers. D cha see my pitcher yet, he cailcd out with hyprocritical cheeriness, It aint bad! It eint bad! Yeah? D cha see mine? Honest I think iCs the best one in the entire annual. Boy! What photography! Neither detected the barely audible sigh that squeezed its way from between the clenched teeth of each. Editor's Note: We (rode public the remark at the head of this page in order to satisfy your vanity. But, we wrote the story ciroctly below it to show you that even if you con fool some of the people all of the time end ell of the people some of the timo, you con never fool a fellow alumnus into believing you are anything else than a good matured, homoly bum.
