DEDICATION l-llS YEAR the United States is celebrat- E ing the sesqui-centennial anniversary ol: E the opening ot the Northwest Territory. Such commemoration is especially Fitting, For it was those early pioneers who First crossed the Alleghe- nies-and actually the enactment ot the Northwest Grdinance a year betore--which marked the trail For the mighty nation of today. Ever since the Second Continental Congress passed the ordinance in I787, no other legislative document has been more lauded, nor has there been one more deserving ol: praise, For through this ordi- nance were brought about the most cherished ot American principles-religious Freedom, trial by jury, habeas corpus, tree education, and the abolition ol: slavery. Too, it was this ordinance which served as the model For the later expansion to the Pacific Ocean. No one knows For certain who drew up the ordinance ot l787, but there is no doubt about the humanitarianism and practicability ot the high ideals which Fosterecl it. It is, theretore, Fitting and proper at this time ot commemoration that we dedicate this annual to those men who transformed their idealism into actuality through this tar-reaching document. -The Annual Board

FGQEWOIQD VER SINCE it was First conceived, the u June Bug has had one ideal: to help grad- , ' uates recall their lives in the halls ol: East Technical. This semester we have aimed to swerve as little as possible From that ideal, although attempt- ing to enrich it by bringing within its scope more than just the school's activities. For instance, we are helping this year to celebrate the passing ot the Northwest Ordinance-an ordinance which threw open to settlement some 3,500,000 acres ol: land lying near Lalce Erie, and the opening of which is now being celebrated by college and civic bodies. We wish to acknowledge our appreciation to Mr. Paul Scherer, Mr. Evan Lodge, and Mr. Paul Minghini For their co-operation and guidance. Also, we want to thanlc Domenic Tomaro, print shop Foreman, and the many senior members of the printing and art classes through whom this bool: took its Final Form. ln conclusion, we hope that this June Bug has come close to its ideal-so that in years to come you may turn to its pages, and many rich memories ol: East Technical will rise warmly in your mind. -The Annual Board
