STUDENT TEACHING So this is what it's like to be a teacher, you think as you drag yourself out of bed at 6:30. There are only a few other people in the cafe at this hour, and as you sit together having a second cup of coffee, you commiserate with them over supervisors who appear at inopportune times and what a pain it is to write lesson plans. Driving down to school you wonder what you're going to do about Todd, who's becoming more than a little obnoxious, and you reflect that teaching is definitely a challenge, but it is not always quite the challenge you thought it would be. Sometimes it feels like you're a referee instead of a teacher. But every once in awhile something will happen to convince you that it's all worthwhile. When the class gave you a sur- prise party at the end of the quarter it was nice, but when Linda gave you that note saying how sorry she was that you were going, and when Rosie brought you the home-made vase filled with straw flowers, you knew you must have done some- thing right. Now if you can only find a job after graduation

OFF CAMPUS Off campus at lastl That one year in the dorm felt like one year in prison. Special visiting hours, no alcoholic beverages, and food as bland as bread and water. Now things are going to be different. Friends can drop in any time, you can study without the Lido Shuffle blaring through the wall, and your roommate will be someone you can get along with, instead of some clown ar- bitrarily assigned by the Housing Office. This year is going to be a lot better than last year.
