ROBERT OPPERMAN Assistant Principal T0 THE GRADUATES The graduates of nineteen sixty-two are leaving school at a time when the world presents confusion and problems which baflle and depress many of the adults who think seriously of such things. It is my sincere hope that these boys and girls have had help in learn- ing to think straight and put First things first during their years in school. Not all of us are destined to lead nations, write great books, pioneer in space research, or gain fame and wealth, but great individual satisfaction may be translated into personal success when we accomplish everything possible in whatever line of endeavor we have chosen for our life mission. So whether or not we ever read of these young peo- ple in headline exploits, it will be comforting to know that wherever they are and whatever they do, they're gaining happiness through success in worthwhile ac- tivities. W. W. Downing, Principal MISS ELISE GROTE Registrar . ,, gn W f - a The Cffices MISS RUTH GROTE Program Director The East St. Louis Senior High ofhce section is a center of activity where students are counseled or correctedg where principal and assistant prepare to complete the tasks which daily confront themg where teachers check in to begin a day of im- parting knowledgeg and, where the oflice staff keeps the ofHcial records and does the paper work and other tasks necessary to keep a school operating eficiently. The concert band, largest of the four, has eighty members. To qualify for this band, one must show proficiency in the major and minor scales and the basic rhythm patterns. Those holding the higher positions in the concert band, positions which are deter- mined every two weeks by tryouts, constitute the pep band. The pep band plays for all assemblies and pep sessions. Certain members of the concert band who showed an interest in dance music dur- ing the summer music program were chosen to make up the dance band. It plays for special programs and assemblies. 92 K Linda Taylor, Donald Giger, Charlotte Cleveland, James Swims. ' The School gymnasium, which had been transformed into a pink and silver Crystal Forest, set the scene. A maze of silver aluminum trees complemented by a lovely pink backdrop, composed the decorations. Miniature, contemporary trees, which were used as table decorations, added to the decor. At eleven olclock, Darlene Bass Vecera, Retiring Queen, was escorted to the throne by Larry Dietrich. Maids Catherine Clark, Carol Cox, Janet Flynn, Nina Misegadcs, and Judy Williamson whose escorts were Bob Triplett, Larry Bell, lVilliam Owen, Bill Niemeyer, and Richard O,Brien proceeded to the dais to watch the Coronation ceremony. A tie between Cathy Clark and Judy lVilliamson for First Maid of Honor was broken by the drawing of a number. Judy picked the lucky number and thus became First Maid. Gloria Wlebb and Janet Johnston served as pages for the coronation. New Queen Janice was escorted to thc throne by Ken E. Wlilliams. Master of ceremonies for the program was Mike lfVheeler. Elaine Briggs was mis- tress of ceremonies. The Prom Committee was supervised by Chairman, Mrs. Childress. 169 ESTLIAN STAFF Editorial Audrey Armistcad James Armstrong Karen Boswell James Carner Susan Edwards Karen Gay Mary Frances Keen Carole Lamont Ruth Levan Janice Maul Willa McMillion John Miller Carol Moore James Mussulman Veronica Perkins Kathy Schneider Arthur Smith Judith Williamson Advertising Kathy Croak Bernard Green Judy Maple Betty Terhune Ken L.
