English Takes A New Step As the new year started, the English department added one more class to the twelfth grade curriculum. The English Advanced Placement class, or English AP as it is commonly referred to. was established for a select group of seniors: those who had demonstrated their abilities in their three previous years of English. Unlike the other honor classes. this class was established to present a more college - like atmosphere. Students are being geared towards a collegiate way of learning, with more lectures and more reading. Mr. DiFran-cesco was chosen to teach this class and underwent a series of classes at Manhattan College in order to become more acquainted with this new material. Mr. DiFrancesco’s ideas were quickly put into motion as his class began to read more and more novels. Writing is also a vital part of this class and Mr. DiFrancesco soon dictated countless essay topics. This program was set up in order to help East Side seniors adjust to the rigorous and sometimes overwhelming freshman year of English at college. The class is not very large, however, with Mr. DiFrancesco's help and encouragement along with the tenacity and dedication of the students, this pioneer program will definitely encase itself within the regular English classes that a graduating senior may become a part of.
