Designers and Writers A challenging (till life to capture on canvas . There are certain times in our lives when we wish to develop our talents and we begin to explore the available options which will enable us to do so. For those of us who are artistically talented, we find enjoyment in the various art classes. There, we are able, with the help of our teachers, to express our unique skills and develop our abilities. We may enter our drawings and paintings in contests, such as the Newark Brotherhood Poster Contest. Newark Project Pride, and Newark Teen Arts. In our English classes, we are given the opportunity to explore a different world • that of literature and creative writing. Through reading books by such famous authors as John Steinbeck. Arthur Miller. Ernest Hemingway, and William Shakespeare, we are able to broaden our views and ideas on different sublets. In addition, our English classes help us to improve our writing skills. This becomes useful when we decide to express our thoughts and opinions by participating in essay contests like the V.F.W.'s Voice of Democracy, the Newark Brotherhood writing competl tion. and the Optimist Oratorical Contest. Wednesday Is ... Today is Wednesday, so it is gym day. We will go to the lockeroom and change into our gym suits. We may do some aerobics or play a game of softball. Maybe we will play badmintoni this sport is entertaining for everyone, including Ms. Brown, our coach. The boys will most likely go outside to the park to run. so we can have the use of the entire gym. The class will split into four teams. Our team will serve first today. Nilda Dominguez goes to the back court to servet she throws the birdie into the air she swings the racketi and ... That's the bell ... Tomorrow our health class will be in session. We are going to have a test on chapter eight of the Driver's Manual. We will have to take our notes home to study. Everyone is anxious to obtain their driver's license, so they study hard to pass the test in health class. As the final exam, we will be given the standard driver's test consisting of 50 questions. We have to pass this test in order to receive our permit. After this, we will be able to take our driving test to get our license. To prepare ourselves, we are reviewing the specific areas that will appear on the exam. Rosangela Costa and Dina Furfaro have already received their license, but most of us are waiting ... patiently. The gym classes provide us a time for recreation as well as for physical fitness. Maybe that is why the classes always seem to go by quickly. The driver's education classes, on the other hand have been a great help for everyone hoping to obtain a license. Besides providing us with the knowledge needed to get our license, we are able to receive a lower rate of insurance by taking this course. Well, here we are at the gym. We are going to play badminton after all. We better suit up and it's off to play balll
