The first class of a college preparatory student could very well be math, science, or a laboratory. In the laboratory one can observe many facial expressions. A happy, contented smile covers the face of the student who has just completed an experiment successfully. Inevitably there arc a few masks of disappointment to be found on tho faces of students whose experiments have perhaps jus exploded, leaving them with an artificially, possibly vari-colored epidermis. Better luck next time! Perhaps, the secretarial student might find his first A in a secretarial practice room. Confronting all those machines and electrically operated mechanisms, one might be lcary of entering. There need be no fear, for the students are given expert training in machine operations and leam to manipulate them with case and precision. Their training is invaluable, for more than likely they will be using their experience, upon graduation, in the occupations of their choice. Oh, oh-another jammed machine! Let’s get out of here, quick! 27

Following a business student, may lead straight to a bookkeeping class. Assets, liabilities, debits, credits, income, expenses—Will they ever make sense? Of course they will! The tcadkrrs are here to see that they do make sense. Busy little hands are writing figures and preparing statements that will, they hope, balance. Oh, a sigh of relief, and a thankful face tell us that all lias balanced; and a future bookkeeper or accountant is born. The shop classes, provided especially for the boys, may be the first step of an industrial or technical student. For them, the roar of shouting voices has ceased, only to be followed by the hum of a motor or the whir of a saw. Yes. here is started on his way the man who will work with his hands, the builder of the future. The periods fly by. One. two, three and finally, four the beginning of the lunch periods. Racing masses gush into the cafeteria from all sides. The rumbling of chairs, the slamming of books, the noisy shouts. Oh, the serenity and calm of the cafeteria are unsurpassed. Lines begin to form as hungry students wait their turn to buy their lunches. A sudden crash, and nimble fingers reach to pick up the remains of a lunch that was almost eaten. Oh, well, the diner wasn't really hungry anyway. After lunch has been eaten and tension is relieved, the various due cussions range from the test had last period to “What are you wearing tomorrow? or Did ou see that football game yesterday?” Here and there buried in a hook is a studious head, trying to study for the test it's going to haw ntarr period.' Oh not That bell rings too fxsi! A deep breath, and they’re off to afternoon classes. 29
