' For Whom I lie Bells loll Tin.- sun rises. Riving light to a new day and life to an old, somewhat majestic building. The build-ing-our school of course; the life-well, we arc the life. The doors swing open, welcoming crowds of students, burdened with books and the thoughts of the day ahead. A steady stream brings them up the well-trodden path, through the door, and into the silent corridors. So the day begins. How swiftly those sleeping corridors are transformed into pandemonium! The hum of voices and the ring of laughter are predominant. Hurrying footsteps lead to many places. A most popular gathering spot is tltc Student Activities Room. Large groups, at times almost crowd-size, invade it every period of the day or before school to work for Student Council, Torch, or Announcer. More than once a week the footsteps lead to the Teachers’ Cafeteria where class meetings arc conducted. A more quiet environment can be found in the library, but it too bursts with activity. A bell rings, and all at once the halls are again calm and serene. This is the Isomcroom bell, and now the actual school day has begun. 23

Oh! there goes another string. One more note to go. Sit down before the bell rings! Hello therer The homeroom period affords an opportunity to catch up on last night's l omcwork or the latest gossip. Its prime purpose is to provide time for opening exercises and the reading of announcements for the day. There goes another bell, and off they go to period one. This procedure occurs eight tiroes every day. As the students make their way to their first class, they sometimes stop for a brief chat or brush a hand or shoulder in a “Good-morning” fashion. However, they don't stop for too long; for before they know it, that bell nnp again, meaning detention for the few stragglers who didn't quite make it on time. 25
