There is no element of greatness on our squad hut we will play every one up to the hilt, said our amiahle coach Lou Fittipaldi hefore the opening of the 1952 foothall season. And that's the way it happened. The Wild- eats put on a terrific foothall show in every game and finished the season with an impressive four win, one tie, and three loss record. lslast Rutherford, appearing not to have anything resemhling their l951 edition, fielded a suprisingly strong team. Handling the bar-kfif-ld chores for the Wlildcats were Bill Shepherd, Bill Oholsky, Anthony Stopinsky. Carl Simmons, ,Ioe Smalz, Charles DeVasto and the amazing Walt Nieglos. Nieglos was a tremendous factor in the East Rutherford ground game as his ehurning legs gained over 1.000 yards dur- ing the season. His hard play earned him a herth on the Passaic Valley Conference All-Star foothall team. The squad's defensive strength was nothing to sneer at either. The forward wall saw Chet Yak and Bill Milano at the end spotsg Frank Pietrzak, George Henry, Boh Hamas and Bill Lesko at tackleg ,lohn McMahon, Vie Valente, and John Pollak at guard, and over the hall was Sam Ma- zella. In the opening game against Passaic, the underdog Wildcat team turned in a spark- ling upset at Riggin Field.
