'QAII write-ups for the Triangle must be completed and handed in by Friday. This notice is well-known to the reporters of the Triangle staff. This year was a busy year for the Tri- angle as it celebrated its twelfth anniver- sary. lt was first organized about twenty years ago, and since then it has reported the scbool news and served as an outlet for the literary talent of lil. ll. H. The most competent writers, typists, salesmen, art- ists and production staff, comprise the organization. Among the many popular features of the Triangle are the senior propbeey and senior questionnaire. The gossip page al- ways sets the school buzzing. The poets and authors of the sehool are given special recognition by the publication of several pages devoted to orig- inal poetry and stories. Cartoons are drawn by Lewis Brown, and the sports department, efficiently run by its editor, Stuart Schiffman, covers the field of scho- lastic sports. The latest Paris ereations are reviewed and pictured by E. R. H. S.'s leading fashion designers. This year the Triangle conducted a poll in which the students voted for their eboiee of President of the U. S. The rc- sults were surprisingly aeeurate. The Triangle does not forget E. H. H. Sfs graduates. .ftnnouncements of recent weddings. engagements, and honors com- prise the alumni news. Dances, class plays, band activities. assemblies. clubs and other programs are efficiently covered by the reporters. Une of the most important events-. which was covered by the Triangle. was the evaluation of thc school. The newspaper took advantage of this opportunity to dis- cuss various features of the sehool. The job of assembling the Triangle is one which requires time and effort on the part of everyone. At the first meeting called by eo-editors, Richard Katstra and Donald Pavliek, the reporters get their assignments. They then go out on their own to get the news. At frequent intervals they report to their respective departments. The rest of the work is put into the hands of the salesmen. They are respon- sible for publieizing the Triangle and taking orders for it. When the long awaited day arrives, the salesmen distribute thc copies. Each year the Triangle is submitted along with other newspapers to an evalua- tion eonductcd by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, where its good and bad points are determined. It is also a member of the National Seholastie Press Associa- tion and the Quill and Scroll. Many members of the Triangle staff who have written artieles of merit are worthy of membership on the Quill and Scroll and are often recommended by the advisors of the Triangle. The advisors to the Triangle are Miss M. Zimmermann and Miss V. Gardner, the art department advisor is Mr. H. Gommoll. att' 'Q Back Row: R. Liva, Business Man- ager. There is no element of greatness on our squad hut we will play every one up to the hilt, said our amiahle coach Lou Fittipaldi hefore the opening of the 1952 foothall season. And that's the way it happened. The Wild- eats put on a terrific foothall show in every game and finished the season with an impressive four win, one tie, and three loss record. lslast Rutherford, appearing not to have anything resemhling their l951 edition, fielded a suprisingly strong team. Handling the bar-kfif-ld chores for the Wlildcats were Bill Shepherd, Bill Oholsky, Anthony Stopinsky. Carl Simmons, ,Ioe Smalz, Charles DeVasto and the amazing Walt Nieglos. Nieglos was a tremendous factor in the East Rutherford ground game as his ehurning legs gained over 1.000 yards dur- ing the season. His hard play earned him a herth on the Passaic Valley Conference All-Star foothall team. The squad's defensive strength was nothing to sneer at either. The forward wall saw Chet Yak and Bill Milano at the end spotsg Frank Pietrzak, George Henry, Boh Hamas and Bill Lesko at tackleg ,lohn McMahon, Vie Valente, and John Pollak at guard, and over the hall was Sam Ma- zella. In the opening game against Passaic, the underdog Wildcat team turned in a spark- ling upset at Riggin Field. East ltutherford dropped a real thriller to Rutherford. The Bulldogs sank a shot in the last seconds of play to give them a 61-60win. Our cagers, travelled to Lyndhurst where a classy Colden Bear cluh trounced us 62-52. ln a one-sided game Paterson Eastside handed us our third loss, 63-37. The Passaic lndians then vis- itml us and handed us a 77-63 drulrliing. A cocky, Clifton squad then travelled to East Rutherford and received a 63-60 loss in an action-packed contest. Garfield, Passaic Valley Conference champions, got the upper hand in a game that saw the Wildcats absorb a 56-38 loss. Lyndhurst played the Wildcats next. A thrill racked sec-saw fracas took place in which our team dropped another heart breaker 66-65. l.odi then edged the Wildcats. 67-53. Passaic hested the hard fighting quintet, 67-33. The remaining contests saw the Vlfvildeats scrapping and always playing their hardest, liut yet never quite alile to turn back their opponents. 'G At-u-lroy, Bill l in Combined Squad vw ' . Faust. llaselnall The record of wins and losses of our baseball team's 1952 season does not tell the true story of the finely eo-ordinatcd team which represented our school on the diamond. ltiaeh game was a thriller and closely fought, but had breaks for us at erm-ial moments of play gave our oppo- nents the edge. Prior to the season's opener, our team appeared as the logival choice to win Val- ley Conference crown. We had an all vet- eran infield exeept the catching post, and this position was quickly filled by John McMahon. Bill Shepherd returned to third base, while Tony Farraro handled the short- stop job. Eddie Rys took care of second base and Mike Kupec shifted to first base. Mike brought honor to our team by winning the first base position on the Valley Con- ference All-Star team. The outfield, too, had seasoned performers in Dave Bode, Jim Talbot, and Carl Simmons. at least! l Good for a double 77 Our pitching staff was led hy cxperiene- ed Chet Yak, who the year hefore twirled his way into the schoolhoy Hall of Fame hy blanking Passaic and Eastside with no- hitterst. Donald Pavlick and Phil DeVasto helped complete the pitching staff. These players provided our Wiltlcat team with plenty of offensive and defensive strength. ln the season opener against Passaic a determined East Rutherford squad howed 4-2. However, they hounced hack to wallop Eastside 10-4. In the next game, a sterling pitching duel between Yak and Usinga, who each allowed only one hit, resulted in a Lyndhurst win, 2-0. The season progressed rapidly and the Wilclfvats, who fought hard in every game, finished with a five win- eight loss record.
