Preli, R. Carnevale, Miss J. Salerno, Faculty Adviser, J. Naegele. The completion of the 1945 TliA I..liAl was done by the undy- ing efforts of its staff, the help of the faculty, the pupils who so willingly accepted our book, and all the others who helped make it the success it is. The excellent photography was done by the T1-1A l.15Ai- s greatest friend, Mr. Joseph Gisler. His patience and skill in acquiring the precious materials that he so freely gave to us will never go unappreciated. To our artist of the day, Richard Carnevale, goes our warmest thanks. We will not forget the salesmen who aided us when they were most needed, by boosting homeroom sales. We of the staff will always remember our days in high school, especially the days we spent working and having fun together. No, it was not all work. If you could have been there to see our funniest moments which occurred when it was time to write poems for the seniors, try- ing to find out all we could about each one, you would agree that there was lots of pleasure mixed with this work. The staff was divided into the following sections: Editor in Chief, June Prelig Photography, Lenore Kemling, John Neagleg Advertise- ment, Doris Gray, Margaret Clark, Business, Ann Petraccag Literary, Ethel Stead, jean Russ, Wilmington Searsg Art, Richard Carnevaleg Faculty Adviser, Miss J. His advice is always more than welcome, and we like his sincere manner of talking. Un a whole we do not see Mr. Faust too often. However, when we do, his appearance and disposition are always the same. He may appear stern but really, he's not at all harsh! He certainly is the man to manage our Big Top. To the students of East Rutherford High School, Mr. Ifaust's office is one of the busiest places within the school. Because of his close Contact with the Board of Ifducation. all final rules are relayed to us through his othce. Teachers come in and out daily hoth to deposit and to receive important notices and mail from the mailboxes. Miss Virginia Ranges is our General Managerxs competent secretary. Her winning per- sonality has made her a favorite of many students and she is also one of the main links in producing that excellent paper, The lfighting Triangle , for our hoys in service. Ma. Qeaaqe fbieawedzlea .... n nn ,hd hi f, X I f Q E Y D 2-1 CE- , 'rm Q., C., M fs-D E GENERAL DIRECTOR Mr. George Dierwechter is our General Director, because he directs not one student, but generally speaking, all of us. As principal of our High School, Mr. Dierwechter brings forth the rules and sets the way to maintain them. The word Principal, always seems to frighten students, but anyone who has sat and talked with Mr. Dierwechter in his cflice has found him a very interesting person, capable of handling all our problems and wholeheartedly behind all our anticipations. Here is another busy office. Mrs. Martha Hawkins, our General Director's Secretary, is more than efficient in handling the work that passes daily through these portals. One important task is the controlling of the periods and the ringing of the bells. All records, both of students and teachers, are kept up to date in this ofhce. Anyone with something new or troublesome, comes to see Mr. Dierwechter, but he handles each problem or suggestion with time, perseverance, and care, finally doing what would be expected of a General Director. f9.1.,.'f. . 17? 9 1 pr-u Tofu Razr: Gcorgc Binl, Board Architcctg lfrcd liigcnrnuchg lfrcd Grossbohling Anthony P.lDd0l'fQ Harold bl. llollcnlwcck. -I. tl. Then came along our arch enemy, Garfield. Wlicther it was over-con- fidenee on our part, or a defiant Garfield team, or maybe .1 little of both, we shall never know, but what we do know is that the underdog Garfield took our shirt to thc tune of I9-13. Then after beating Lyndhurst 26-0, we went down to defeat at the hands of Clifton and then Paterson East- side. We came up to our final tilt on Thanksgiving Day with Lodi which ended in a 13-13 deadlock. BETWEEN HALVES Y-E-A TEAM! It is a good thing that football season started with the opening of school, or we might have lost some of our best men to Uncle Sam. As it is, these fellows will not be able to finish out this term in school. Being lost to the service are J. Hadrava, R. Reichardt, J. Wojcik, and probably many more before this book goes to print. Next year the line will be weakened by the loss of Wojcik, Morris, Meyer, Sesselman, Hadrava, Berge, and Villata, while the backfield will remain practically the same, losing only one man, J. Clarkson. So here's hoping we have a team next year, not only as good as this year's but maybe a little better. XX yf4,fg,gJ ,, L 'lwjll-K0lc': Mitchell, P. Morreale, -I. Moore, HfVChcval, Truscello. Page thirty-four DOWN HE GOES SCRAMBLE Since a play by play description of East Rutherford's 1944 football season would be next to impossible, here is a sketch of how it went. Starting our season as usual with Passaic, we sent them reeling back in a stunning 19-0 defeat. Gaining confidence we took on Paterson Central in a night game and came out on top by a margin of 19-6. Then traveling to Butler we slashed our way to another 19-6 victory. By this time op- timists were seeing a great season for East Rutherford. This optimism suddenly lagged as an underdog Garfield eleven scored a 19-13 upset. After a week of practice Coaches Mahon and Fittipaldi had the team back in shape so that we crushed Lyndhurst with a score of 26-0. Then came the tangle with the Conference leader, Clifton. Al- though wc lost that close game 13-7, Clifton really knew that they had a fight on their hands. Again the next week we slipped and went down to defeat at the hands of Pater- son Eastside with the score of 24-13. Then on Thanksgiving Day we traveled to Locli's Cavallo Stadium only to be held to a 13-13 deadlock on a muddy gridiron. A lot of credit for this season should go to Coaches Mahon and Fittipaldi for bringing into action some new surprise plays that befuddled our opponents. s X x t X Ml 13. rl LONG DISTANCE PLEASE! In summing up the Cross Country season we have to give praise to Coach O'Neal, Manager D. Degerdon, and to thc nine lettermen for a hard fought, if not a prosperous season. The nine winged foot fellows are Kologe, Kilian, Wfalter, Meineke, Harris, Bowie, -Ianeczko, Luscombe, and Fuelling. Most of these fellows are veterans of long standing but there are a few new ones who showed up very well for the first year. Now to give you an idea of how the season ran, let's look over the schedule faced by our harriers. They started off the season by losing a tough match to Paterson Eastside on our home course by a 28-Z7 margin. Next came Rutherford to beat us in a hard fought meet also, 28-27. However, we got revenge for this: we invaded Rutherford on their course, ran roughshod over them to the score of 40-15. We traveled to Newark to meet St. Michaels and again romped off to a 38-17 victory. Meeting Kearny on their home grounds, we sent them to a 38-I7 defeat. As the season started to draw to a close, we went down to defeat in the next four con- secutive meets with South Side of Newark, Paterson East- side, and then twice in a row, to Passaic. Nimble feet covering yards of track, young healthy lads clad in their beloved school colors, maroon and gray, make rw-1 s........-,, LEAP-FROG up our sure-footed cross country team. Hours, days, and weeks of continual practice give them the ability to run their races without slowing down. You can well see how true that must be, because aren't the majority of people ready to drop after a block's sprint? They ran right through all this, encountered victories and defeats with wings on their feet and with hope in their hearts. Witlaout the glory that football and basketball bring, this team ran on to victory for our Alma Mater. lfirsf Knut l. Adler, E. Landis, J. Bowie, P. Ifuelling, -I. Kovacs. M. Kmetz. Seroml Ron: G. However, our' next two games, with Lodi and the Alumni were disappointing, but not disheartening. Determined to win, our Cats showed their ability by clawing up a victory score of 31-26 over the powerful Rams who had beaten us only two weeks before. Now we faced a confident Iiastside team, to receive an expected drumming. Onward our fighting team rolled, meeting stiff opposition from Passaic's Indians and Central's Colts. Facing unde- feated Clifton ended in a defeat, but also in a deter- mination to do better next time. Then the Boiler- makers met us, and their narrow victory on us didn't dampen our spirits, for when we met I.yndhurst's Golden Bears, we routed them with a score of 43-20. Again our fighting spirit proved itself by a one point victory over the Galloping Ghosts of Eastside. Per- haps bad shooting was the cause of our defeat to the Indians, but this was ovcrcome by an overwhelm- ing victory over Central. Meeting the Mustangs set us back again, but encouraged by the coming Jam- boree, we attacked the Boilermakers with renewed spirit and upset them to the tune of 45-24. We played first, facing the Indians who had given us severe trouble earlier in the season. Passaic started off fast, but our backboard bandits came out on top with a score of 32-14. A few nights later our team met unde- feated Clifton. Wllela the smoke cleared, our fellows had shown the fight was not in vain for the tolling of the score showed we had beaten unbeatable Clifton by a score of 33-31. liastside Ghosts were next on the list. We lost that hard fought game by 26-34. Disappointed as we were, no one could lflame the team for they tried their best. Members sub- mitted their contributions to the Bamberger Art Contest and, as always, had a niet showing. Many of the dances held in the school have been made more attractive by the decorations which the Art Club helped to produce. They can truthfully say that their year has been prohtable. SCIENCE CLUB Science is a Held of knowledge with many angles. All these different angles are within the Science Club. Anyone interested in any kind of science enjoys being a member. At meetings, they perform their own experiments and actually see the things we read about. So if you have the least bit of Darwin in you join the Science Club. 1 LZ' f X 1 l tl t s TRI -Y Irrif Run: IT. Strickland, S. Kan- mk, bl. Duerkes. M. Clark. Treasur- er: Mrs. Munmgniery. TRIANGLE The Triangle Staff has done an excellent job this year on both the regular Triangle and the Fighting Triangle. ln spite of the paper shortage they have succeeded in making both publications very successful. Their fine work has been recognized by the student body and ex-students who are in the service. The fine efforts of the staff have also been rewarded by membership in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the National Scholastic Press Association, and the Quill and Scroll. The God of Fun must have put his finger on the town in California, which was the location for the play, for the laughs heard ringing out from the audience proved it. Mrs. Donavan and her family decided to pay Mrs. Rogers a visit-Now that's where the romance comes in. Jimmy Rogers and Dorothy Donavan, decide it must be the real thing -but in comes Norleen Sears, bringing with her a touch of glamour, flirtation, and a bundle of trouble. The incidents and lives of the characters are typical of anyone who lives in a small town and has unexpected guests, The mix-up of fathers, mothers, daughters, and sweethearts makes for a gay evening. The members of the cast include: Jane Brexel, Isabelle I-lillyer, Wfilliam Keay, Williarim Humphreys, Jean Russ, Ruth Wander, Robert Ramoth, Audry Schaffert, Robert Vollack, Margaret Clark, Janis Gerber, and Ethel Stead. COME RAIN OR SHINE This year's junior Class kept its tradition of turning out 21 really truly enjoyable piece of drama. The typical family aspect of Come Rain or Shine put this one over, making it tops. The quarreling children, hot-tempered father, cool-headed mother, combined with the next-door gossip, a dramatic coach, a snobbish guest, and many friends gave this play a dash of something new. After a little rivalry over the coach, it look an unexpected twist when his fiancee took things into her hands. All ends well, as the father gets a much better position, and all the love affairs are well-balanced. The east included: Lois Steepy, Frank Nisi, Carl Trebing, Doris Sanderson, Emil Posluszny, Pat Carroll, Phyllis von Walll- menieh, Al W'atrel, joan Bressem, Lois Vander Vliet, Josephine Snoop, Helen Cimler, Evelyn Demetrofsky, Lucy Costa, and Robert Brett. , ff , f . fi f l U' X A X A W , ii ,A ., .i 1 ,- .r, 1, Page fiffy-tl: ref 1 I IT T.ATs IT BRTATHES 4..l ' IT LIVES BUT gg! 425 Q!! rl V A04 R adbq 3? In a flash he turns and takes her off and heads into the sun Where the Japs in man-made hornets ride, full twenty to his one. He questions not, nor falters, as he roars into the fight For a soldier won't be conquered when he knows he's in the right. Half a world away a freighter dips her prow into the blue 'Neath the stern and able guidance of an ever-watchful crew. Suddenly the calm is shattered by a lookout's lusty yell, U-Boat off the starboard quarter! Battle stations! Give 'em hell! Yes, and hell is what they'll give them 'til they drive them from the sea For you can't defeat a sailor when he's fighting to be free. With the British and Australians, a hell-for-leather Yank Plows across the sands of Egypt in a roaring, twisting tank. Over ditch and dune approaching where the Axis forces wait And without a qualm he rides into their cannon spitting hate. Giving blow for blow until, they break and flee into the dust. Fighting men won't take a licking when they know their cause is just. While our Army and our Navy meet the enemy afar, Wheels of industry are turning, rolling out the tools of war. From the sands of Martha's Vineyard to the warm Pacific shore Men and women work together welding bombers, digging ore, Building ships and buying War Bonds with a tenth of what they make. You just can't deny a people when their freedom is at stake. Ensign R. L. Collins, USNNR in Fighting Dollars , publication of the U. S. Navy War Savings Sales Staff. I B0lLl G PRI as SAV!
