Graduating And New Beginnings Graduation is not only diplomas and caps and gowns; it is also beach time! Not long after that last diploma is handed, and that last cap goes up in jubilation, many graduates head for Myrtle Beach. There, they enjoy fun, sun and their first tastes of “freedom.” After the summer's over, there will be those who hit the books again. Our seniors won't stop being stu- dents until four more years pass for some, who will be attending uni- versities and colleges. Others will choose two-year industrial or voca- tional training programs, while some will participate in special training programs such as cosmoto- logy or electrical careers. For others, their life choices will result in marriage, going to work around Ruther- ford County, begin- ning new families as well as becoming ac- tively involved in the adult world. What- ever the choices, the seniors will never again relive these same experiences, but will endeavor to challenge new ones. Introduction 9

The Senior class and faculty dedicates the 1985 Lancer to Mrs. Tinnie Mae Dawkins. Mrs. Dawkins, a native of Sanford, North Carolina, has been on the faculty at East Rutherford since 1966. Married to James Dawkins of Forest City, and mother of four children: Rowena, Artina, James, and Beth, Mrs. Dawkins is esteemed for her involvement with students through the Student Council in which she has served as advisor for eleven years, as well as her teaching history and government classes. Students feel that Mrs. Dawkins vw . is a great teacher — makes her class fun and interesting, and most important she cares about her students.” Students also feel that “She has contributed much developing their leadership qualities.” Because of Mrs. Dawkins’ attitude, multi-talented skills, cooperative nature and warmth, the faculty and senior class gratefully dedicate the 1985 Lancer to “Little Pharoah”.
