10 Introduction Streaking Toward | Teachers at East have many jobs they must do, more than just teach, in fact some of the jobs the teachers do are more tedious than teaching. Let me tell you what a few of these little jobs are: Mr. Gettys makes sure there is no speeding in the parking lot; Coach Shepard can always be found on D-hall during lunch giving good advice; Mrs. Moss seems to be the only teacher at East who doesn’t take a break, and she’s only a substitute; When Mrs. Jernigan is not instructing P.E., you can find her practicing for her acting career; Mrs. Hastings does not work as hard as it seems, she really has a - f 4 Wp bad « magazine on her desk; And we all know teachers have to eat to keep up with all the jobs that must be done.

After a while when papers, assignments and deadlines seem to pile up, we often seem to ponder, “Why Me?” But when that last test is complet- ed, that last paper completed, we hear a sigh of relief. As soon as.we gain enough knowledge to survive “life after high schooll”, we think about the fun and good times that were had. But then isn’t that what high school is all about? We find classes to be interesting, entertaining, humorous, provaca- tive, or dull depending upon our mood for the day, the teacher for the course, or attitude toward the subject and the classmates surrounding us. Teachers are a chief complaint, but we must also be thankful that they care about us and go to the trouble they do to help us acquire new knowledge. Knowledge comes in many facets and disguises. Each day some new information is gained even though we may not be aware that we are smarter than the day before. ey Introduction 9

With outstanding qualities, especially understanding and compassion, he has become an avid outdoorsman and a great teacher. He has co-ordinated the Sr. activities for a number of years. His wife’s name is Rachel and he has a son namd Kelly. For his dedication and service, we, the senior class, dedicate our annual to him. Introduction Il
