Maiden Principal Robert Parry Assistant Principal Edward Crowley June, 198 Assistant Principal Gerald Honig Dear Students, The Class of '84 leaves East Rockaway High School at a time when American education is under attack from many sides. Studies do point to lowered SAT scores, the need for college remedial courses in basic skills and to many thousands of high school graduates who are unemployable and functionally illiterate. Into that rather dismal setting come some bright rays of hope as the Class of '84 enters the world. Many of your classmates have distinguished themselves and brought credit to the school. You have achieved a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist, several Regents scholarship winners and successful Mathlete, Mock Trial and It's Academic teams. Many graduates have been accepted into fine colleges while others have solid p.lans to start careers in the business, health and art worlds. Unfortunately, others in the class have either set no personal goals , or have closed their options by failing to succeed in either a strong academic program or in a vocational program at BOCES or at East Rockaway High School. They may become a part ovf the nation at risk described by the National Commission ontExce1lence•in Education. havesjjeen successful in sports, drama, publications, academic pursuits and Rock -Rivalry. The.real challenge lies in applying the skills learned in school to opportunities in college or in 4 career. Aim high in setting personal goals. True success in life m some contribution to society. We will attempt to keep in touch wit gress in the coming years. We will ities and many of us will remember t spot in our hearts. Good luck. ■ W V r HRI v, JPF As a class, you leave with many memories of class achievements. You Barry Akrongold Albert Kachmoski Richard Meagher
