In an age said to be sorely lacking in heroes, we, the members of The Class of Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Two, must dissent from that opinion. Heroes — those esteemed for certain qualities that transcend the bounds of mediocrity — are, on the contrary, surrounding us both in our own world and in the realm of fiction. Within the following pages, there is a merging of the real and the legendary. As Seniors, it is we who are both the heroes of this book and its villains. This is an annual which recognizes the special traits required for the various phases of our school life in a negative as well as a positive sense. Despite first glance, the challenges the Superhero must face in his own domain are not always totally dissimilar to our own situation. Just as the intrepid must face challenges that tax the sum total of their ability, those whom this book centers around must face the Confrontations of sports, must appear In the Limelight, and it is our Legions of Champions who must combat the ever-present forces of apathy and lethargy. That is why it can truly be said that this age is not lacking heroes. The world is filled with them; some are closer than you might previously have thought. p. 18 VILLAINS IN THE LIMELIGHT THE CONFRONTATIONS LEGIONS OF CHAMPIONS p lie SIDEKICKS m p. 136 HEROES 5

Ifi Why must you die And I to wander on. Is that the way it is with friends?' | — Gilgamesh Danny Uhl (July 30,1964-January 14,1981) He had a thousand ideas. You might have known his name. He lived alone with his vision, not looking for fortune or fame. The first thing that comes to mind when we remember Danny Uhl is his fine ability to be himself. He always felt that being happy with himself was more important than being accepted by others. To his friends, he was always one on whom you could depend. I guess you can say that he had no doubts or fears. Some remember Danny as a very unique individual. Danny was, at times, a rather shy person, but he would always put his crazy sense of humor to work, and that shyness would simply vanish. In times of trouble, he was always a very courageous person, always a real fighter. Those who were very close to Danny were extremely fortunate. He always had a love for the outside world, for he appreciated his surroundings and didn't want to see anyone tampering with our environment. There were many things that he objected to; if he thought he was right he would always hold his ground. He just wanted to say what he thought. But there remains something he never told us, and all hopes of knowing it died when he went away. If only he could've been with us, there is no telling what he might have said. — Andrew J wish my life was a non-stop Hollywood movie show, a fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroes. Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain. And celluloid heroes never really die. — Ray D. Davies
