In typing class we have gained not only pro- ficiency, but, through volunteer services, have made ourselves useful to the faculty and to the entire student body. At 8:00 a.m. chorus rehearsals, we manage, somewhat sleepily, to prepare for such out- standing events as the operetta, the Christmas program, and the Spring Festival. Our classes are informal, our topics open to discussion, and teaching methods of the finest. AT EAST ROCKAWAY ia. - lib The development of skills in shop is an im- portant part of our school's curriculum and, for many, is valuable training for the future as well. Hard work, hours of rehearsal, and the joy of working together have made many of our productions unforgettable. Amidst books, pocketbooks, and noon-time chatter, we find a time and a place for eating, for some homework, and for lots of fun-a welcome break in any day. Blue skies, brisk breezes, and merry laughter accompany after-school sports which are open to all. Their abundant spirit and gay music combined to make one of the finest Rock Rivalry per- formances ever presented. Our sister class aided us by their confidence and spirit. They are a class to watch for they are bound to give the other classes a great deal of competition. The juniors placed third with their theme Green- wich Villagef' Originality has always been an out- standing characteristic of this class. This year they did their entire entrance in rhyme. After weeks of anxiety, hard work and sleepless nights, the Seniors put on a top-notch performance the theme The Crisis. The fine music was the high point of the entrance. Opening with a Southern ballroom scene the performance continued to depict the emotional highlights of the Civil War. The finale represented a nation once more united, with the strains of America the Beautiful echoing throughout the auditorium. For the first time since the auditorium was 1 WX TRIUMPH built the cyclorama was used. It was a big chance to take, for precision in the lighting effects was imperative, but it proved to be very successful. The Seniors showed their originality in their drill-team cheering. Another first that the class of '54 can be credited with. The skilled art work, excellent music, display of athletic ability and fine workmanship put together won the coveted cup for the seniors, but without the fine cooperation and class spirit they displayed they could never have had the Rock Rivalry that will never be forgotten. . . . Presented in November by the high school chorus with great success and marked another highlight of the year. This year, as in the past, Mr. Fordham directed the chorus and was responsible for the top notch performance. We would like to thank him for all the extra time and energy he contributed to get the show on the road. tyss ,W 70 The Mzkado N ankz Poo K 0 K 0 P0019 Bah Pzfla Tusk Yum Yum Pzttz Szng Peep Po Kamlm CAST Peter Watson Benjamm Calfle Henry Fordham Jr Alva Tr1pp Gerald Caswell Janet Schade Myra S1ege1 Carole Nlddfle Phylhs Austm An 71 SINGERS a busy group vlh1ch IS the nucleous of the hrgh school chorus have conunued IH the1r unusual workmanhlce fashxon by lendlng the1r volces to numerous programs Under the chrectxon of Mr Henry Fordham thls group has sung be fore such orgamzarlons as the Elks Club the K1wan1s Club and the Golden Age Club Bes1des outs1de engagements they have partlcrpared m all the muslcal programs of the school 72 1 1 .
