The 1983 football team was staggered this year, but the future will hold a lot of potential. With only six returning lettermen, the Tigers showed a great effort in trying to repeat as the NEC Champions. Olney went through a rebuild- ing period as nine sophomores played during the season. The Mt. Carmel Golden Aces regained the NEC Championship title while most of the other teams were rebuilding for the future. The Tigers will be an influence in the conference for the next couple of years. The Pep Club, Tiger Boosters, and the fans of the game proved to show support for the team. Big turn-outs and a lot of support was shown throughout the season. A thank you is well de- served for the people who supported the team. Four members of the team were named to the All- NEC team: Greg Kermicle, first team defen- sive back; Greg Erwin, second team defensive linebacker; Phil Martin, first team defensive tackle and second team offensive guard; and Doug Curtis, honorable mention to the defensive back and offensive receiver teams. Returning lettermen for the 1983 Tigers were: Greg Erwin, tri-captain; Phil Martin, tri-captain; Greg Kermicle, tri- captain; and Harold Davis, senior letterman. Clay Keller, senior letterman; Jeff Ratcliffe, senior letterman; and Pal Hahn, junior letterman. “Martin, look at the chic over there in those tight, red polka-dot shorts.” — Greg Kermicle During the “Mud Bowl” at Salem, many loyal fans stayed through the storm to cheer Olney to a victory.
