Champs The I.ady Tiger Netters had an excellence season this year under their new head coach. Katie Potter. The girls ended up with the best record they hate had for years. Never hating to experience the taste of defeat was a goal they set; and it was a goal they achieted. Lnding regular season play with a record of 12-0. the Lady Tigers had beaten the likes of such teams as Flora. Fffingham. and Salem. The highlight of the season, however, had to be defeating Centralia, the first time in four years that Olney had beaten them. The girls didn't stop there — they went on to beat Centralia two more times during the season. One of those wins took place at the Centralia Invitational Tournament where the Tigers took home a 2nd place trophy. A tough Belleville Fast squad took first place from Olney by just a few points. As the season progressed the Lady Netters started to prepare for the NFC. The girls were out for revenge, as Flora had taken away solo championship with a tie the year before. The day of NFC came and the girls were ready and wanting a win. And win they did! The girls swept the meet as they took all positions in the finals. Julie Bowen. 2 seed, came out the victor in a hard fought singles championship match with 1 seed. Sunny F.rbacher. In the doubles finals it was the I seeded team of Anu Natarajan and Julie Read pulling out a win over the 2 seeded team of Cindy Kesler and Debbie Militello. The Lady Tiger Netters also did well at Sectionals. Centralia was in Olney sectional for the first time, making the competition a lot stiffer. Olney came away with a 2nd place behind C entralia. Four girls qualified for State. These four girls were Julie Bowen, Sunny Er- bacher, Julie Read, and Anu Natarajan. Due to an injury that Anu suffered. Kelli O'Dell played doubles with Julie. At State, Julie Bowen did very well as she won her first round, which made her one of the top 32 players in the state.
