Editors’ Note f cridUj Hoyt± co-editors With this annual, the 1983 Olnean, our theme being “A Different Year,” we have tried to capture the interesting aspects of life at good oP ERHS. We feel that the pictures which we have chosen are the most revealing, and the stories show how this year is different. If you enjoy reading the Olnean, putting it together gives us just as much pleasure. In addition to all the traditional clubs and mugs we feel compelled to include, we have dreamed up some playful pages: a school map, Rate-A-Date, Olnean Rejects, and First Date. As a gift to the freshmen, who shall carry on long after we upper- classmen have departed, we have made their pages a special color, so as to distinguish them from the rest of the book. Each day this year, at precisely 10:30 a.m. (or shortly thereafter) our staff tripped into Room 207; we editors would like to thank them for their toil and especially for their reminding us of all the errands that needed to be run uptown. We also tip our hats in appreciation to the following: Mr. Dave Shafer for all his advice and his unique sense of humor. Mrs. Mildred Richardson and the Tiger Rag staff for pictures, information, and advice. Mr. David Allen for the time he gave and for his tying our many ideas together securely with a theme. ERHS faculty and personnel for putting up with class interrup- tions by “hall-roamers” getting quotes. Valerie Dreiman and Cindy Yonaka for staying in to type day after day and giving up free time four weeks into the summer to wrap up this book. Terri Shafer for taking care of us through our late- night workathons; Kyle Shafer for entertaining us just by being his cute little self. The office secretaries, especially Sherry Harrison for tolerating our constant questions like: “Haven’t those funds been transferred yet?” Mark Bouffard, Kim Sorensen, and Eric Sorensen for helping us record this year on film. Mr. Ron Monsen for taking Pow Wow pictures, without him that night we would have been in a real plight. Our division page models, in particular Ross Kirk who willingly went all over town trying on women's clothes for the activities page, and the coaches who proved to us that they can still fit in high school uni- forms. Olnean alumnae Lea Ann Burgener and Kathy Sor- ensen for advice; we benefited from their experience. Olney Daily Mail for giving us pictures. ERHS students, for without whom there would be no yearbook. Everything now seems to fall into place. Hours spent planning this book are past. Pictures have been chosen. Layouts fought over and revised have been copied and recopied. Stories written and shipped will soon be proofread. As we write this, the book is nearly finished. We hope you will savor it and save it, find it full of the memories we all share — of words to re- member and images that will be the touchstones of 1982-83, the year that just was. “Being Olnean editors brings out the monkey in us!” — Kathy Keyth Elizabeth Brauer
