Q92 861781019 sciezzfific abfifude This year saw the world's awakening to a new scientific era as we began to explore the unknown. Sputniks whirled around the earth, and students everywhere began to realize their importance as future citizens and leaders. While we felt this new obligation to the world and to ourselves, we at ERHS followed the national trend and placed a new emphasis on education. We saw school in a new light-as a place to develop our abilities and interests to their fullest extent. Science and mathematics naturally gained in importance, but other courses f agri- culture, homemaking, industrial work, social studies, cultural interests, languagef -all were affected by the change in outlook. We now are applying this new scientific attitude to our entire educational program. We Want to use our minds, abilities, and interests to develop better students, for if we are better students, we will also be better citizens. This is our goal. We learn to reason by studying algebraic and geometric problems, and then by applying this new ability to every- thing We do. As students of mathe- matics, we discover many principles applicable to other courses. Even more important, we are providing ourselves with a sound basis for reasoning out future problems.
