A bon- fire and pep rally at the home of Beth Phillips brought enthusiasm to a peak the night before the big game. Homecoming was October 8, and the Wildcats lost a hard fought conference game to East Davidson, 18-0. But the game wasn’t the only event of the evening. After a week of speculation, the Homecoming Court was announced. Due to prob- lems concerning the selection of these girls, this year’s court was rather large. Enthusiasm was not dampened, however, when the 35 girls were introduced by Master of Ceremonies, Parks Allen. Wanda Carter was crowned Homecoming Queen by the 1970 Queen, Sue Brower. Student Life 19 Students Become Ecology Conscious Students got involved in the “ecology movement” and found out that cleaning up their envi- ronment isn’t always such hard work. In December the Student Council’s ‘Save Your Can’ cam- paign netted a grand total of 4,000 cans which were carried to a Greensboro re-cycling plant. Extra reward, in the form of class parties, went to the homerooms with the largest accumulation. ¢ THe FIRST IN Your Ast TO RECYCLE Yoor ¢ © 20 Student Life Beta Puts It All Together With Initiation... A special program of carols provided by the chorus was short- ened by a surprise visit from Santa Claus. Santa, who resembled East- ern’s own Mr. Hooker, arrived at the assembly with his bag of candy and was soon mobbed by the students. Christmas Spirit Science Fair Entertains PTSA An academic highlight of each year is the Science Fair, a display of individual projects by students in the Science Department. The over-all winner was “Pollution Affects A Habitat—Deep River,’ by Wanda and Calvin Boger. This was a study on the effect pollution has had in deoxygenating the water of Deep River. All projects were exhibited after the February PTSA meeting. = MOTION WITH SOUND f 1. Students were on hand to explain projects. 2. Projects of varying themes were found in the multi-purpose room. 3.
