March of Time CLASS HISTORY In September 1941 we embarked on our career as Freshman We vowed then to gam the recogmtxon of the upperclassmen by berng actlve as a class group and by partrclpatlng rn all school actrvrtres Under the supvervrsron of Mr I Edward Adler we orgamzed our class by selectlng Vwran W1ll1ams as Presrdent Lorrarne Evans as V1ce Pres1dent Ioyce Gershuny as Secretary and Harnet Schnerder as Treasurer It was under their drrectron that we enthusl astlcally launched our IIISI successful class affarr a Hallowe en Dance Future class plans were shelved when our country entered World War II on December 'I We drverted our support and effort to the buymg and sellrng of war savmgs stamps Many of our teachers bade us fare well and yorned the armed forces Next fall we returned to school as Sophomores trylng to prophecy mcreased class BCIIVIIY for the year But our predrctlons were premature The war contrnued to be waged and more members of our faculty were belng replaced by part trme substrtutes The constant changlng of faculty personnel presented problems xn malntamrng a permanent class GCIIVIIY schedule Nevertheless we elected offrcers to serve us rf the occasron arose We chose lohn Menas as Presldent Robert Whelan as V1ce Pres1dent Mary Tarner as Secretary Martxn Chethn as Treasurer In our lunlor year we were reumted and began dxscussmg plans for the year Vrsrons of a lumor Prom prompted the class to work lncessantly to secure the necessary funds Our bank account was bolstered by the sale of maqazlnes and proceeds from our class play Murdered Ahve whlch was cllrected by Mrss Dorothy Pavllck Wrth our lmproved fmancral standrng and accumulated gasolrne coupons we were prepared for the blg event So on May 3 the merry lunxors and thelr guests motored to the Impenal Ballroom of the Hotel Webster and danced to the musrc of Tommy Carlyn s orchestra Thrs eventful year was credrted to the gurdance of Mxss Helen E Brennan and our class offrcers lohn Menas was Presrdent Manlyn Oakes V1ce Presldent Mary Tarner Secretary and Martrn Chethn Treasurer The f1nal year at our Alma Mater found us departxng from our summer war jobs to fmrsh our hrgh school educatxon We lmmedrately voted Andrew Malanos as Pres1dent Martm Chethn as V1ce Pres1dent Peggy Lou Krohe as Secretary and Manlyn Oakes and Robert Hurley as Treasurers We all agreed that th1s year the annual yearbook should be restored after rts absence for several years To defray the expense of the book and a Senror Hop we conduc ed four dances ln the gymnas1um a Chnstmas card sale and a magazrne subscr1pt1on sale Our treasury was boosted to a more comfortable balance by proceeds from our play productron Ask Me Another whrch was directed by Mrss Helen E Bradley For th1s most successful year we are very grateful to Mrs Margaret Keefe Brennan for her untxnng effort rn gurdmg our class through 1ts many act1v1t1es The most memorable days on our hrgh school calendar wrll be May 20 Baccalaureate Servlces and May 24 Commencement Day' 1 llllllllllllllllllllillllllflllllllllllll'lllllllll . , . . .. , I I I ' ' . - - I I .. , .
