MILES KOZLOWSKI TREASVRER . . . .IIM LOVVERY AIJVISICR ,....... , . MR. KING High flying fellows, these boys of the Aero Club! Give them time-a few more years-and you may find them flying their own planes or in college slaving over aeronautics and mechanics. They're bound to be working at something connected with the field of aviation. Many from the Aero Club have gone into the armed forces and a number of these into the Air Force because of their love of aviation. Several of these boys have returned home on furlough, and on a tour of the school, were invited by Mr. King to talk to the club. These talks proved interesting and thrilling. This organization is established to furnish an opportunity for those interested in flying to learn about the fundamentals of navigation, meteor- ology, aerodynamics, and the power plant of the airplane. Also, it keeps these air-minded students up to date on topics of aviation. To help keep them informed, the club receives the Current Science and Aviation bulletin. Some of their activities are model plane flying, special reports by students, discussions and demonstrations, movies, and talks by visiting servicemen. SMITH With dials spinning and wires buzzing, Radio clubbers worked on the theory of radio for the benefit of the new members. Last year the club began work on a public address system. It under- went many Changes, but was not completed. During the summer, Mr. Smith revised and simplified the work on it greatly. The club met, held its elections, and mapped out its plans for the year. The new members, with some knowledge of radio under their hats, built small sets of their own. Also, a power supply unit and other radio projects were built from the well-stocked shelves of materials. Twelve or fifteen eager beavers maintained memberships and paid dues of twenty-five cents a semester for supplies. Evening meetings some- times supplemented those during regular activity hours. The girls sold E.P.H.S. beanies, donated to the World Christmas Fes- tival, and sponsored Safety Week. The Future Homemakers of America fformerly Home Economics Clubj is an international organization and has a large membership throughout the nation. But let's get back to our own school which is a small but essential part of this great organization. The theme of our own E. P. Chapter is Hands Around the World? Our motto is Future Home- makers of America Toward New Horizons. A May Picnic spread at Fon du Lac Park topped oft' the successful year. The theme of the outing was We Enjoy Nature Together. Also, at the October meeting, new members were initiated by charter members in a pledge service. In November the members held a Battle of the Sexes and a Quiz Hour. Local huba-huba girls and Van .Johnsons soon discovered that the Movie Club is just what the name says- a club organized to teach students how to run movie machines. But on- the-beamersn quickly latched on to the opportunity and became teachers' little helpers during free hours at school-prospective operators in life. Practice makes perfect and bearing out the truth of this old saw monthly meetings of cinema clubbers were given over to the showing of movies and slides. This club lays claim to being the only group in school that witnesses movies with a professional eye. A full year ahead, plans to be made, things to be done. The G.R., you know, is sponsored by the Young Women's Christian Association. The club develops friendly unity and better understanding among girls. All Girl Reserves of the Peoria area stage a Gremlin's Riot once a month at the Y.W.C.A. Ideas are exchanged, projects are con- quered, recreation is enjoyed-fun and food for all. In November they pitched in and collected food for Thanksgiving baskets. Later on, a World Fellowship dinner was held at which they served dishes typical of all countries. Christmas was a busy time for our G.R.'s. The highlight of the season was the lovely Vesper Service including all Peoria area members. The great event of the year which everyone excitedly awaited was the King and Queen of Hearts Ball in February. Plans were hatched all during January and then came the big deal climaxed by the crowning of the King and Queen. In May, Pa, Ma, and Me trooped to the HY to their annual banquet. The hobbies of the members vary from those of a collective and creative nature to those of sport nature. During the first semester, Thomas Matheny gave a demonstration of his fascinating hobby of magic. Also, Mr. Moore fired us with enthusiasm with his fish stories -true ones! During the second semester Betty Patterson gave a ducky talk, at the same time showing her father's hobby-carving small wooden ducks. June Carter talked on her wide collection of postcards and Mrs. Hind- man, the librarian at the East Peoria Public Library, gave an interesting review of books. Miss Schroeder, our club adviser, told us about several of her ex- periences in traveling here in America and Europe. She also showed her souvenirs from these places. The members of the organization had a musical program as one of their second semester activities. Handicraft and many other hobbies were displayed during the club hours and the sixth successful year of the Hobby Club ended with a picnic in May. The play centers about Argan, the 55-year-old imaginary invalid, selfish, tyrannical, and egotistic, but extremely afraid of death. He is trying to push his daughter, Angelique, into a convenient marriage with a doctor, but the mischievous maid, Toinette, manages the fulfillment of Angelique's wishes in the matter, at the same time exposing the intrigue of Beline, Argan's self-centered wife, to bring the play to a righteous ending. 1-ll t 1 xx lm-fl to right: lIK'IUl'l'S Nimmcms.
