FOOTBALL Coach Parker's 1948 football combine started with eight lettermen returned from last year's squad: Bill Aldrich, August Landsberger, Iohn Nolan, Ward Russell, Dwight Uphole, Willis Walker, Thomas Wilson, and Glenn Young. Ward Russell and Bill Aldrich were elected co-captains for the year. Due to injuries to key players all through the season, the Bull- dogs came up with three wins and six losses. Ward Russell, one of the co-captains, was named to serve on the first county team and the second Tri-County team. Dwight Uphole and August Landsberger placed on third Tri- County team. COMPLIMENTS OF PICKIJNG EQUIPMENT CO. BASKETBALL Coached by Mr. Harold Martin, the Brown and White basketball squad, built around veteran lettermen Bill Aldrich and lake Reeves, got off to a fast start. They won five of their first six games, the lone loss being admin- istered by a strong Canton South quintet. After scoring their fifth win by defeating a previously unbeaten Louisville club, the Bulldogs lost a heartbreaking 38-37 overtime game to Colum- biana's Clippers on the home hardwood. Fol- lowing this the Brown and White lost four straight before again hitting the victory trail against Leetonia. Probably the peak accomplishment of the local cagers was a thrilling 54-44 conquest over Salem. This victory marked the first basketball win over a Salem team in thirteen years. A late season slump by the Bulldogs, partly due to the injuries and illness of several team members, kept the team record from being too impressive. However, underclass team members are looking forward to a more suc- cessful season next year. Captain Bill Aldrich and lake Reeves led the team in scoring. SCHEDULE E. P. H. S. Six track men qualified for the state meet: Glenn Young, and Everett Blower in the broad jump: Iohn Bauknecht, Tom Wilson, August Landsberger, Glenn Young in the half-mile relay. This same half-mile relay team broke the school record in this event. Each of them received a large trophy for this feat. Glenn Young, who scored about S5 points, received the Roy Switzer trophy.
