But no after talklng with her awhlle I found out that he was at home takxng care of six week s old daughter Helen I oulse She was stlll hvmg at Palestme and Devon was a farmer Then I came to two of my chums that really surprlsed me Between askmg questlons and answering them Betty Stevens told me that she was st1ll smgle and a nurse at the Provldent Hospltal m Chlcago She sald she was st11l gomg wlth jr Carpenter and was planning to be marrled before too long joan Archle of course falrly knocked me over when she said she was now teachmg the fzrst and school I never thought she would be a teacher And surprlses never end she then told me that she had no lntentlon of gettmg marrxed for at least f1Ve more years She was l1v1ng at home After hearmg her tell about her puplls It made me rather homesick to go back and VISII for a day At thls tlme who should appear at my slde but Mr and Mrs Kenneth Nlswonger They had marrled late ln 49 and Kenny and family were now llvlng m Greenv1l1e They were plannlng on moving lnto their small cottaue on Central Avenue before long They then pointed to a small girl and boy playmg over ln the corner w1th Mary Lou s children Of course I knew rlgnt away that they belonged to Kenny and Rosle The boy Kenneth jr had daddy s helght and janxe had her mother s blonde halr and gray eyes Rose called Janie and both ch1ldren came running I asked baby jr what he wanted to be when he grew up and here LS what he sa1d I want to be a good basketball player ltke daddy says he was turned to talk to Janie and away she went poo shy llttle girl On to the group of men slttmg over there on the couch I moved towards them and whom should I re cognlze rmght away but Ray R1chards Next to h1m sat Duane Goens and then Harry Pollng I remembered when I asked Duane what he wanted to be ten years ago h I guess Im gomg to college but I dont know what for Well lt seems as though he declded as now he holds a very good Job as Manager m an offtce down at Wrmght F1eld Tzm was always one of those fellows who was qulck wzth the mmd but not vlth h1s hands You re domg all rxght anyway so keep It up Then I just couldnt lt any longer to flnd out about Ray Was he married?
