Ififfli Rau'-Ricliard Ashbridge, Mr. Paulus. The EPHANIAN, yearbook of East Palestine High School, made its debut in 1914. Its editor was C. K. Laber, president of our school board. The first conflict it saw was World War I. Several of its contributors gallantly fighting to defend our American freedom of which the EPHANIAN is a part. In the early 1930's, when the depression was at its worst, the general supposition was that the year- book could not survive, but it was, nevertheless, published each year. Once again we are in the midst of a world suffering, struggling for our liberty and happiness. Once more the El'HANIANiS purpose is to present our high school and all its aspects. May wc, as future citizens, remember our yearbook as we endeavor to create a better and wiser way of life. SENIOR CLASS The biggest moment in a student's high school career is the moment when he receives his diploma, It is this step that concludes days of studying, evenings of football and basketball practice, various club meetings and all other activities that are symbolic of high school. It is this step that begins a new life for each member of a graduating class. Some start a life of work in industryg others go on to school. We see that this year the picture has changed somewhat in that many boys will be going into the armed forces. It is this step that the class of 1943 is about to take and we hope that each one of this class will be able to well adapt himself to the future, whatever it may be. This year's Junior Class will find the banquet difficult if not impossible due to rationing, and the prom will be more difficult because of shortages. These shortages might not only prevent the class from obtaining necessary supplies, but the shortage has also hindered them in their money-making enterprises. These sources of finance are mainly the sale of candy, which has been greatly restricted, and the annual school play and dues. Practice was started late in August and the prospects for the coming season became brighter day by day. Although the season was considered successful by most of the student body, the Bulldogs felt that the season could have been more successful had not continued injuries put them at a disadvantage, and disrupted their all important team work. The highlight of the season was our game with Leetonia in which Don Westover made a touchdown on the starting kick-off and which ended in a thrilling victory for Palestine with a score of seven to six. Other bright spots of the season were victories over Brookfield and Minerva, which showed our ability to come from behind and win. Credit for the successful and spirited team should be given not only to the boys themselves but to Coach Parker whose ability as a coach and his clean sportsmanship made possible the success of this team. These injuries had a decided effect upon the outcome of the games throughout the season. The spirit of the team was kept up by the conscientious efforts of Coach Frank M. Bryant who should be given much credit for the wonderful work he did in spite of such disheartening odds. Fairfield Newell Fitch Alumni Wellsville Waterford Salem .
