0 We, the members of the Class of 1954, feel honored to dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Gertrude B. Jennings, who retired at the close of the first semester. Born in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Jennings attended the East Stroudsburg Teachers' College, Drexel Institute in Philadelphia, and received her degree at Teachers, Col- lege, Columbia University. A teacher of home economics and mod- ern living, Mrs. Jennings has watched the department grow from cooking and sew- ing to its present status. Aim.. pdyg to the various courses for girls, including one in modern living. Energetic Mrs. Jennings organized the first Junior Red Cross in the high school in 1941 and headed the group for nine years. During the war period, the Junior Red Cross, under the close supervision of Mrs. Jennings, did everything from load- ing Red Cross trucks to painting at Camp Kilmer. W e students shall remember Mrs. Jen- nings for her pleasant friendliness and for the help that she gave us toward the most important en.d of education-the creation of stable and happy homes.
