..l 6lllflIHllllE5lIMlllIE5 NE or THE Mosr WORTHY cusroms or Ton.-xv is to recognize definite periods as stepping- stones to be looked upon with pride. With a great deal of satisfaction we announce that the ROSTRUM has weathered every storm for twenty-live years. Much credit for making this ac- complishment possible must be given to the Senior Class of 191 1, who had the initiative and the ability necessary to publish the lirst ROSTRUM. This book was dedicated to The Citizens of Cincinnati, without whose loyal support night high schools would' never have attained the prominence and importance which they have at present. The twenty-five books which have been issued show little change in design or material from year to yearg however, a comparison ofthe Hrst with the last will reveal a difference in structure that is at first astounding. The majority of space in the earlier editions was devoted to editorials, some on school life and some on prominent topics of the day. Pictures were not used as pro- fusely as they are in the later books. It is interesting to peruse the reading matter and scan the pictures of the Annuals for twenty-five consecutive years. In them we realize the progress that has been made in thought and in dress. . In compiling this Silver Anniversary edition of the ROSTRUM, we have endeavored to give you a history of the many organizations which offer us the social life so abundant at East Night and which are the backbone of our yearbook. It is from them that this book receives financial support. Most of these clubs have had their inception subsequent to 1911 and conse- quently cannot boast of having reached their twenty-fifth birthday. On the silver division pages are drawings by our Art Class which are composed of items from diferent editions of the ROSTRUM. The years selected are those which mark some notable achievement at East Night. Instead of using pictures of architecture or landscape in what is commonly called the view section, we have protrayed some of the operations through which every issue ofthe ROSTRUM has gone before it was handed to the students complete and ready for their enjoyment. In brief, we have attempted to make the Silver Anniversary ROSTRUM a summary of the preceding yearbooks at East Night High School.

Page Eighl To the Students of East Night I-ligh School: For almost a quarter of a century it was my privilege and pleasure as principal to welcome each year at East Night several thousand earnest and ambitious young people eager to prepare themselves more fully for life, and to advise them and work with them in achieving this aim. Because of this long association with East Night students, I believe l know better than any other Cincinnatian the sacrifices made, the hardships borne, the dif- ficulties overcome, and the success attained by them. Among l4last's graduates may be found many ofthe business, professional, and civic leaders of today. It is therefore with much elation that l note another class is about to graduate from the dear old school, and that another Ros'rRUM is about to leave the press. YYell do I remember the heroic edorts of the first East Night Senior Class to publish a year book! Fittingly it was the Class of 1911-the first East Night class to graduate from the present W'oodward Building. The Ros'rRUM then was a modest ninety-two page paper-backed volume. Rach year since then the Ros'rRUM Editorial Staff has enlarged and improved the Ros'rRL7M. Today I am told it re- ceives national recognition as a high-school Annual. That this year's RosTRUM may even surpass all previous editions, and that the future, whose door is just now opening before the seniors, may be even brighter than they at present dream, is the wish of your friend, ALBERT Sci-IWARTZ.
