We are cognizant of the part that not only the future of our country but also that of a free world will be determined by our youth. Knowing the American youth, we therefore do not fear the future but look toward it with a new hope and a knowledge that a better world of freedom, democracy, and under- standing will be the reward of our great conflict. Young people, we look to you for the leadership in the future affairs of free men. J. C. Smith P5 If . 4 -,,gg4.4- . irf'-5' . 4' , .-, . -M A.. ., W , .. , , , , , . My Friends of the Faculty and Student Body The delivery of this year book reminds us of the fact that time is passing, and with it many opportunities for doing good unto our fellow travelers. Our great nation with all of its freedoms at this time is locked in deadly combat for its existence. This is a time when the very souls of men are tried, but as I look at the youth of America, I have no fear, because history will record that the youth of this fair land has never failed her in trial and shall not fail her now. We have learned the necessity of putting one's heart into one's work. The signers of the Declaration of Inde pendence pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor All they had they threw into the movement for inde pendenceg we must do the same today to maintain it There is no turning backg We cannot fall our pos terity. History will record our actions. May I express my appreciation to the senior- class of 1943 and its sponsors for this publication, which -as we read in the years to come, will inspire our memories ot the past.
